Plans for 2012:
“Maybe I deserve a medal too?” – George Maharaj after the victory of the Kaisoca Ladies Cricket Team at the T&D finals 2011
Yes George, you deserve a medal and so much more! This last video is a tribute to our Coach George Maharaj. You’ve done a lot for Women’s Cricket in Canada and we take great pride in being part of your team. Your job is by far the toughest one and you always do it with smile. You are a wonderful mentor, coach and friend and thank you so much for an awesome cricket season!
P.S. thank you to my accomplice, Marcia who snuck out these priceless photographs!
“I’m not allowing anymore than 50 runs to give away!” – Skipper Durriya Shabbir before the start of the second innings.
Till last year, she was considered a bowler. This year we saw her batting talent bloom. Not only has she been our top scorer in many matches, but this year she was also entrusted with the captaincy of the team. She watched the team carefully, listened to players intently, understood our strengths and weaknesses and transformed us into a collective force to be reckoned with. She has led from the front and has won the respect of everyone on the team. To our wonderful and inspiring captain, Durriya Shabbir, this one’s for you!
“I’m 4 minutes away…” – Mahwish Khan minutes before the start of each game.
She bowls with fury, she bats with passion. We’ve seen her hit cracking shots to the boundaries while batting and seen her tear down the stumps while bowling. She’s a wonderful team player who gave us all a lot of laughs this summer and gave our opponents a lot of tears. To our opening bowler and cracking batswomen, Mahwish Khan, this one’s for you!
“This is my one true love” – Lorraine (No mercy!) Kenton at practice before the start of the finals
There is something so completely genuine and wonderfully inspiring about her. All summer long, she played the game with a broken finger. Was that enough to stop her from playing? Hell no!! She came out to every single practice and every single game with tremendous energy and enthusiasm. From day 1 since we met her, we saw that raw talent and all summer long she toiled long and hard to nurture it. With each passing game, she got better and better and then when it mattered most at the first ever Women’s Cricket final, she annihilated the opposition with a career best 5 wicket haul. That’s our dear friend and teammate Lorraine. From the Kaisoca Ladies Cricket Club, Congratulations!! It’s been a privilege to have played by your side. Here’s a little tribute to you!
Kaisoca Ladies claim the T&D Women’s League Final 2011 Cup!
On what felt like a really cold day for cricket, two of Canada’s top women’s cricket teams, Kaisoca Ladies and Superstars Ladies squared off against each other in a 35 over game. They were playing for the championship title of the first ever T&D Women’s cricket league 2011.
Kaisoca Ladies comfortably beat the Superstars Ladies by 70 runs. Batting first, the Kaisoca team made 104 runs with skipper Durriya making 31 runs and Mahwish making 15 runs. Brilliant bowling followed with the Lorraine and Mahwish toppling the stumps off the Superstars in rapid succession allowing them to score just 33 runs.
In a unanimous decision by selection committee, the most valuable player of the day was Lorraine Kenton who took 5 wickets for 14 runs.
On behalf of the Kaisoca management, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our friends, family, media personnel, cricket administrators and fans who came out to cheer us despite the cold weather. You made this day unforgettable!
Check out the Superstars Ladies and Kaisoca Ladies in action!
